Throw a Puppy Shower

When your puppy comes home he/she will need many things, so why not throw a puppy shower? Register at Petsmart or Petco! Nah, I am just kidding but it would be nice wouldn't it?
Your puppy is going to need things that you don't just have lying around the house so I created a list of things you need, and some you don't, to get you started.

  1.  A safe puppy crate. (for housebreaking, security, traveling and safety) You can find very nice crates at Walmart at reasonable prices that will last.
  2. Food. A good high quality puppy food, like Iams(that's what I feed my pups) or Science Diet. If you change your pups food, do it gradually by mixing his previous diet with the new one to prevent soft stools. Keep him on a puppy food for at least 12 months.
  3. Stainless Steel bowls. They don't have to be stainless steel but you want have to keep replacing them after they've been chewed up if you get stainless steel in the beginning. The dollar stores carry these often, for just a dollar!
  4. Collar/leash/harness/nametag. These will be needed for training and identifying your new baby!Remember, a well trained pet is a happy pet and has a proud owner!Petsmart has the machine to create your own nametag in just minutes.
  5. Pet/Odor/Stain remover. Accidents are bound to happen, so be prepared for the worst! Clean up mistakes immediately. PetSmart has a great product called "Stain and Odor Remover" imagine that, how creative!
  6. Chew toys. Teething is a fact of life, so make sure the puppy has plenty of chew toys. Also for controlling boredom. Get a Kong toy, you insert a treat and it takes them hours to get it out. Keeps them entertained for a while.
  7. Treats. Plenty of treats for rewards and training. And just because they are plain ole good and make them feel special!
  8. Wee Wee pads. Alternate method of housetraining. Not my preference but it certainly works for many people.
  9. Flea/tick products. Frontline, Biospot....whichever you prefer, but you will need to use this product when your pup is at least 12 weeks old for protection against fleas, ticks, flies and mosquitoes. We don't want any bitey bugs!
  10. Breed Book. Specific to your breed. It will help you train your puppy, understand your puppy and make you aware of any health problems or special needs of your  chosen breed. And it's just fun to read and look at pictures.
  11. Bed/Pillow. Of course, if he's sleeping in your bed this is just an accessory lying around the house.
  12. Grooming products. Brush, comb, shampoo, toenail trimmers, toothbrush and toothpaste. Keep your puppy clean, and well groomed. Always trim toenails.
  13. Clothes. Purely your choice, but can be warm and cozy and of course, very trendy. Some dogs like them and some hate them! My little princess loves to dress up, can't you tell in her photo?

Sche Sche the princess!

The most important thing you can have ready for your puppy is
a lot of love and patience!
Show compassion and nurture them, yet discipline them when it's needed!
Please take care of their health as well!
They need vaccinations just like human babies!
Always remember, puppies are little babies too!
Happy Petting!

IT's a pawfect day for petting and pampering!

Spay or Neuter your pet!

Do this for many reasons.....better behaviors, health purposes, stops wandering and marking of territory(in most cases) and just makes good sense. There are so many stray animals because of accidental breedings, so please make an appointment with a trusted veterinarian to spay or neuter your new pet.
